New York is incredibly pet-friendly. On any given morning or evening, your local café, dog run or bodega will be frequented by multiple four-legged friends. It’s a very ‘dog’ city and thankfully most apartments allow at least small pets. Although they may say no pets on the listings, be sure to at least ask the question as they may allow you to sign a waiver or to pay an additional fee to cover any damage from pets. Certain dog breeds like Shepherds face greater scrutiny in the city, but it’s not uncommon hearing of or seeing gentle giants like Bernese Mountain Dogs and Chow-Chows coming out the doors of neighboring apartment blocks.
